The Mindset is a look into the origin story of Ace Bowers, an inspirational individual who was able to completely turn his life around in a matter of five years.

Born into a torn home, the author of this book spent most of his youth in despair. His parents’ constant fighting did not leave a lot of time for actual upbringing, and so when adulthood came, Ace Bowers was utterly unprepared for it. He ended up as a janitor, making six dollars an hour and spending a generous portion of that money on cigarettes. His mental and physical health went downhill, and not long after graduating high school, Bowers was overweight and severely depressed. His story took a turn when his girlfriend called to say they were having a child, and five years later, Bowers could comfortably call himself a millionaire.

Ace Bowers’ story is one a lot of people can relate to, and it is therefore very easy to be inspired by. It always seems worse until something worse comes along, and the author’s story is a great example of that. Yet he was able to turn his life around, first, with the decision that his current path was not a sustainable one. And that is the message he hopes to get across to his readers.

Besides the story itself, I most enjoyed the actual writing. It was neat and straight-to-the-point, without coming off as mechanical. I also found only one typo. That said, I cannot think of anything particular I found lacking in this book.

Bowers’ wrote The Mindset not just for the pleasure of readers, but also for the psychological relief. He lays decades of emotional baggage bare in these pages, and this book is as much a healing exercise for Bowers as it is a push in the right direction for readers.

I was initially skeptical of reading a memoir because real life is hardly as exciting as fiction in my opinion. But I benefited from reading this book, and so, I am rating The Mindset four out of four stars.

This book is highly inspirational and interesting. It was satisfying to watch the author transform himself into the man envisioned, and for the sake of family, no less.

I recommend this book to natural fans of memoirs and non-fiction. Though, if anyone in particular needs motivation, it is worth picking up The Mindset as well. You won’t be disappointed.

This book contains mild expletives.
