Review by Kushina_2 -- The Mindset by Ace Bowers
The Mindset by Ace Bowers is a captivating and honest memoir about the author's journey from rags to riches. Since childhood, Ace found himself living in a grim environment. A disturbed family and the poor financial situation of his home took a huge toll on him as a young kid. With no college education, addiction to smoking, and a depressed state of mind, Ace was working as a janitor with minimum wage. However, certain events occurred in his life that made him work harder and motivated him to strive for something big.
The memoir enthralled me from the very first chapter as the author begins to elaborate on how severely bad the conditions of his home were. As a young kid, he would have to watch his parents fight as they abused alcohol. He would have to lie to people constantly about almost everything due to the embarrassment he felt. The pain of seeing his brother go to prison and not be there for him was also one of the many things that affected his mental health. Then, there came certain people in his life that would change him for good. As Ace sets on working hard and become diligent, he slowly and steadily climbs up the ladder to success, owing to the people who were always there for him. The thing that appealed to me the most, was how the author describes his state of mind and the people around him so well that I could feel a strong sense of empathy for him. Ace's story is so inspiring and it makes you realize that anything you dream of can be possible only if your mindset is right. The book also emphasizes on how the bond you share with your family and friends is of utmost significance and how it shapes you as a human being.
As for the negative aspects of the book, there were none. The book is very refreshing and motivating. It inspired me to be my best self, and look at life from a positive perspective. The book also made me realize that not every challenge in life is like a walk in the park rather, working hard and overcoming obstacles are an integral part of it.
The book was enthralling, inspiring, and very moving. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book and took so much from it and hence, I rate this book a 4 out of 4 stars. The flow of the narration was seamless and smooth. The editing of this book is top-notch and void of any typos or errors.
I would highly recommend this book to lovers of non-fiction and autobiography genres, looking for something motivating but realistic to read. People of all ages who love to be inspired by accounts of other people would find this book a real treasure! There is, however, some sensitive content like substance abuse and domestic violence and so, I will not be recommending this book to children.
