Review by Alheotuci -- Chronicles Journey Toward Hope
Chronicles: Journey Toward Hope by Marvin Wilmes
There’s only an amount of loss a person can take before it makes or breaks a person. In “Chronicles: Journey Toward Hope,” Marvin Wilmes writes about his journey towards faith, perseverance and hope by giving us 15 keys to overcoming loss. Despite losing his mother to cancer and facing a lot of trials in life, he continues to keep his head up by relying on God for guidance. A lot of times, he felt like he wasn’t living up to his potential, which was disheartening, as he was a dreamer. He applied for several jobs without being satisfied, which was becoming a burden to him, thereby causing a strain between him and his family. His life was far from perfect as he has mourned so many losses. He witnessed a lot of changes, not only in himself but also in his family. He wasn’t satisfied with a lot of things but God was working out a plan for him. His marriage wasn’t perfect, his job wasn’t perfect and his life wasn’t perfect also. He was a survivor. Everything didn’t fall into place for him instantly. Slowly, he started to grow in faith and became more humble. Things started to change for better as God steadily paved way for him.
The positive aspect about the book was that it was captivating to see how a man who didn’t know his purpose and has lost lot more than he has gained in life, kept on growing. This book taught me a lot about perseverance and faith. The 15 keys given by Marvin Wilmes to overcome loss, not only taught me about determination and hope but also, to remain strong during hard times. The book was well written, as every passion and emotion that was put into this book was felt. By reading this memoir, he made me understand that changes are inevitable and there’s no life that is perfect. I connected with the book in more ways than I could imagine.
The negative aspect of this book was that, it had many errors and the punctuation were not properly used. This affected my reading, as I was not reading smoothly as I would’ve loved to. It wasn’t well edited.
I rate this book a 3 out of 4 stars because although I admire the writer’s passion and emotions put into the book, there were quite a lot of errors which were hard to pass by.
For people that like memoirs, I highly recommend this book to you. Also, anyone in general can read this book as I didn’t find any word of profanity. It is simply a must read.
