The Mindset, by Ace Bowers, is a memoir based on his life. It begins with troubling experiences from his childhood to his current success. This book is not a guide to becoming a success. It is about teaching yourself to have the right attitude to obtain your success. Life dealt him such a horrible hand, and he still managed to pull himself out of his childhood wreckage.

Ace Bowers grew up in an unhappy home. His mom and dad drank every day, which lead to yelling and fighting every night. His parents also handled money very poorly. Because of this, he was very self-conscious about his home and their family's circumstances. His parents could never afford new school clothes or supplies. He would never invite friends over. He felt stressed about his friends finding out what his home life was all about. Growing up, his brother was in and out of prison. And his sister was studying, so she moved out of their family home. Unfortunately, this left Ace alone and having to handle the constant fighting on his own. By age 20, he was depressed, overweight, had a pile of debt, no higher education, and no signs of obtaining a job. Though it is easy to look down on someone earning a minimum wage as a janitor, this is something Ace Bowers had to do to make money and start paying off his debts. Though, at the time, this was his rock bottom, little did he know this was the starting point of a snowball of opportunities that would lead him to his success story.

This book was an inspirational read. An ordinary man, with no higher education or any prospects, turned his life around. And in the space of 5 years, he became a millionaire. The Mindset is not about quick and easy ways to make money or pointing out specific steps on what the author did to obtain his fortunes. The story is about inspiring the reader. Yes, life is tough, and sometimes it can feel like life keeps kicking you down. But he was still capable of making a good life for himself, his wife, and his family. Through determination and self-will, he pushed even harder, and it brought him great fortune. It is a story about a man who had lived with the bare minimum, who could now turn around and offer his children opportunities he never had as a child himself.

There are 101 pages to this memoir, so it was a quick read. If you are looking for some encouragement or a dash of inspiration, this is the book for you. If you are looking for a step-by-step guideline on obtaining success, then this book might not be the one. At the end of reading this book, I had no bad or negative thoughts. The book covered a variety of topics that interested me. I found no spelling or sentence errors, and following the book was great because of the easy flow, therefore, I award the book The Mindset 4 out of 4 stars. I believe any young adult would be happy to read this book because no matter who you are, this story can be a good influence for you.

To anyone out there who has doubts, a bad upbringing, or keeps failing at something, keep on pushing. This memoir is the very example of "anything can happen if you fight for it." The author, Ace Bowers, did a superb job of inspiring his readers. He gives you a sense of hope and determination to also turn your life into a success story. Hopefully, we will read more encouraging books by him.
