Nothing is ever a waste of time when you learn something from it. Ace Bowers says and explains this as he takes us through his early childhood and his journey in his book [¡] The mindset.[/¡]. The aurthor explains vividly the state of his childhood; drunk and daily fighting parents who lacked financial discipline, a brother in and out of jail and the fear of his friends finding out the truth about his life. His friends go to college and since he cannot afford the fees he does not attend college. He starts smoking at 16, does exams to become an insurance agent but fails and has piling debts. He moves out to Oregon where he gets his first job as a janitor and a girlfriend who later becomes pregnant while he's still struggling financially. The thought of being a father with a minimum wage and alot of uncertainity becomes his motivation to do better and Ace sees this as a second chance to a new beginning. He decides to move back home where surprisingly his parents come through for him. He then gets his second child after 18 months. At this point he is more established and with a house.

Ace explains the importance of people around him ignoring the fact that they had alot of weaknesses too. He talks to his father and he is able to understand his heart and opinion considering the family issues during ace's childhood. His brother despite the fact that he was in and out of jail played a very important role in his life. The author understands his mother after they talk about her childhood and the effect of the circumstances to her throughout her life and he says this was his best day. The author calls his wife 'my rock'. This is because he met Yuka at a very low point but she saw past his current status.

I love how the Author motivates the reader about overcoming the mindset through his own real life story. He stopped feeling sorry for himself, being ashamed of his family and assuming that his friends had better lives and started going after what he wanted. Ace says that the mindset is an important component in pursuing success. He also tells us about the effects of not opening up to someone about how we feel.He says that keeping those memories results into bad decisions and a lack of focus and a poor outlook on life. And the moment he shared about his upringing to Yuka he felt relieved.

The author gives a great lesson to parents on the way they raise their children. He says that some memories he went through like the smell of vanilla, banks and the sound of muffled voices bring back his chilhood memories and he hates them even now in his adulthood. Banks make him remember the intimidation he went through when he visited the bank with his mother while he was young. Ace again shows the reader that the journey to success doesn't have to be simple and straightforward. He became a millionaire at 28 but this was a process from one job to another with patience, persistence, determination and a helping hand from God. And all this Ace says he got this after a transformation on how he saw life, and allowing his failures to be a chance for a new beginning and a fresh start. Ace, in his journey also learns to appreciate every person he meets whether humble or intelligent. He takes us step by step on his journey from a janitor to a millionaire then to a multi-millionaire in simple sentences that are easily understood.

I would rate this book 4 out of 4 star. for its great lessons and the way the writer was direct to the point and the courage to open up to the public about his childhood, family, failures and success. I found no error while reading this book and i would highly recommend it to all the parents since it would enable them realize the effect of their action on their kids.
