Wake Up! Unchecked Capitalism is Killing Us by Early B. Rynerson is about how our nation has become greedy and how unchecked capitalism is hurting citizens. The book describes how the banking industry became corrupt. In addition, it explains how auto technology has not changed much in over 100 years until Elon Musk arrived. Then the book dives into how pharmaceutical companies control drug prices and want to make an enormous profit. After that, the author discusses the food industry and how processed foods and sugar make us fat. Next, the author explains how the media industry polarizes political parties and targets particular groups. Afterward, the book portrays how the defense industry keeps the US in the Middle East. The US wants to be the dominant military force so it can keep its budget. Another reason the US stays in the Middle East is oil. Then the book examines, oil and gas and how they have been major climate deniers for decades. Moreover, the book talks about airplane manufacture, Boeing, who cares more about profit than public safety and is no longer the leader in manufacturing airplanes. After that, the author describes how our healthcare system is the most expensive; yet, the worst compared to other countries. Finally, how unchecked capitalism made the coronavirus situation worse. The main point of the book is to demonstrate how these industries only care about profit while Americans have a miserable life.

I loved how this book is educational. The author does a great job of explaining capitalism and how the different industries have become corrupt and greedy. Further, I like how the author uses subtitles to allow the reader to know it's another topic or an example. The last thing I like about this book is if you are interested in just one of the topics above you can go to that Chapter to read about it and you will understand it. You do not need to read the whole book but I highly recommend it.

I would not say there are any negative aspects as I enjoyed the book and did not see any grammatical mistakes. I think the book would have benefitted from a graph demonstrating capitalism, socialism, and unchecked capitalism.

I would rate this book at 4/4 stars. I loved the book since it explains all of the misconceptions so well. I am trying to get a better grasp of capitalism and how capitalism affects businesses. I would recommend this book to anyone who is in high school or above. The book was written and edited professionally. Anyone can improve their lives by reading this book.
