I give The Book You Need to Read: Practical Advice From The Bible by Debbie Wilcox a 4 out of 4 stars because it is well written, very easy to read, and is a great beginner’s companion to the Bible. In addition, it is a hands-on, practical guide with a variety of topics that are very relatable to the modern audience.

The introduction gives the description of what this book is all about: “If you have been looking for a resource that can give you direction and instruction for how to improve the things that have been going wrong in your life, there is one book that can help. What is this amazing book that offers so many answers? No, it’s not the book you are reading right now; it is the Bible.”

The Overview gives the reader an easy-to-read comprehensive view of faith, the Bible, how to navigate the Bible, the historical accuracy of the Bible and the difference between the Old and New Testament. It is also a topical guide to Bible verses that provide practical advice for different life situations. The Good News explains what Christianity is about, who Jesus is, and why we need to become right with God (also called repentance) which then leads to the explanation of salvation and the steps to make a decision to become a follower of Jesus Christ.

The author, Debbie Wilcox says it best: “When a time of struggle occurs, our faith is truly revealed. Where do we turn to seek answers to navigate the crisis? Who do we reach out to for advice? This book will help provide new tools and identify the Bible as a resource to turn to when a challenging or difficult time arises.”

This book is definitely a simple, easy to read beginner’s guide to understanding the Bible. It is way too basic for those who have read the Bible before or who have done other types of serious Bible study.

It is the author’s wish: “that you will be inspired through the ideas presented in this book to make some changes in your own life and to your basic outlook and perspective on things; changes which will lead to a calming sense of contentment.”
