Review by ibukunoluwa200131 -- How To Be Successful
How to be Successful by M. Curtis McCoy is an inspirational and motivational book for anyone who desires to be successful or is already successful, leaders and aspiring leaders. I’d say it’s for people who are already successful too because there may be some crucial steps to success which you may not have taken but may be influencing your results in a negative way.
M. Curtis McCoy started by narrating what happened to him. At the age of 27, he owned companies in several industries, he was already successful. Everything changed when he was diagnosed with brain cancer and was given few months to live. This made him to lose everything he had, even memories. He was inspired to make differences in people's life and then he started contacting the successful leaders he admired and then wrote this book.
M. Curtis McCoy also talked about some crucial steps to being successful. He started from the need to be successful which is actually from the need to achieve a goal. He talked about the ways to think and solve problems, one of which is to evaluate the risks against the benefits and see which pays off. He also talked about building friendship and what happens when you become successful.
The author, M. Curtis McCoy uses interviews with successful people who chose to be successful and improve their lives, including himself. These people are people from different fields. They shared their definitions of success, the steps they took to succeed, the commitments they made, their experiences and advice to their 18 years old self.
One of the parts of this book i find very interesting is the part where the author talked about excuses. He said excuses are sometimes what keep people from pursuing their goals. I find this part interesting because i also have an excuse keeping me from pursuing my goal. M. Curtis McCoy did not stop at making us aware of the things that keep us from pursuing our goal he talked about how to think when trying to solve problems.
I like how straight forward the title and introductory page is. From the title and introductory page, I knew what the book is about and this will help filter out uninterested readers. I like the way the author approaches some issues with real-life stories, motivational quotes were used. I like his spirituality too. He used some bible verses to back ideas up
I like the fact that the author explained everything straight. There was no dallying, no ambiguity or use of offensive or foul language. There’s no typographical error, I’d say the book is professionally edited.
One thing I have as a recommendation is for the author to explain what the word BUD/S meant. It was first used in page 21 in the statement,“That's what BUD/S was for me, a lot of hard work upfront.”
I would rate the book 3 out of 4 stars. I like the idea and the way it is represented. The only thing I don’t like about the book is the font style. It made it difficult for me to read
