Review by Pia Sasot -- The Spirituality Puzzle
Are you a believer or an unbeliever? Well, if you belong to one or the other category and searching for answers regarding salvation, then this book, written by James Rondinone and Renee Rondinone, is for you.
The Spirituality Puzzle is a book that delves deeper into the salvation process. The authors made a study to seek answers to the questions on how you can attain salvation and where one goes after death. The book is divided into dispensations ( a period expressing the divine viewpoints in history). Each dispensation takes a closer look at some biblical characters’ relationship and fellowship with God, and they become scrutinized as to their connection into the four salvation messages, namely: Repentance, Belief, Water Baptism, and Godly Works. Will any of these four precepts cause an unbeliever to find God or become a child of God and go to a better place after death? To find the right answers to these queries, the authors examined events in the Bible to either support or contradict the different belief systems.
The book has been well-researched while written in an objective manner showing no discernable bias. Every chapter starts with a question that acts as the premise. This method makes it simpler for the reader to keep track of the tackled topic. The book seeks to inform, and it has accomplished that. Keeping in mind the amount of data that found presented throughout the story, the writers compiled a table that would compare and contrast their findings. It made this easier for readers to make comparisons.
While the data held in the book is informative, it also worked to its disadvantage. The flood of information can be too much for the reader to take in at one sitting. The reader can feel quite overwhelmed at times. One solution is to detach oneself from the book by taking breaks and letting the new set of ideas seep through one’s head before moving on to the next setting. The reader can also break his reading by sections and move leisurely to enjoy the book better.
This piece is well-written and informative. Therefore, I give it a three out of fours . Although it is a good piece of written work, I find some parts repetitive. I do understand that they need to reiterate crucial and vital points, but they could try to be more paraphrased instead of being repeated almost word for word. There was also generous use of parentheses. The book gives too many definitions. It becomes a distraction to the one who is reading.
I would recommend this book to all adults who are searching for spiritual books. It is readable by anyone belonging to any religion or sect. Catholics, protestants, or any denomination would find this book informative. People of any age who are interested in theological titles may add this to their reading list.
