Review by Kay729094+ -- Learn to Love: Guide to Healing ...
Learn to Love: Guide to Healing Your Disappointing Love Life written by Thomas Jordon, Ph. D is an insightful book for those wishing to identify problematic patterns in their love relationships. Using his Love Life Formula, Dr. Jordon explains how initial love relationships impact us throughout our lives. Your first love relationships create an unconscious path to learning love. Healthy or unhealthy initial love relationships can be manifested in future relationships. Dr. Jordon identifies 10 unhealthy love relationships experiences with corresponding negative love behaviors. There is hope to unlearning undesirable love methods. By identifying harmful love relationships, the self-aware person can begin to take steps to correct his/her love life. Dr. Jordon outlines in 3 parts how to modify one’s psychological love life to create a desired outcome.
Dr. Jordon’s revelations are a result of his research with his clients as well as personal experience. The recounting of his love relationship with his mother and father demonstrates how their method of loving directly affected his love life. Through his unconscious learning, he created a perception of women which in turn resulted in broken relationships. With the assistance of counseling, he identified his initial love relationship relearning how to move forward with a healthy love relationship. The research sited and recounting of personal experience made the book relatable and behavior modification achievable.
Everyone experiences an initial love relationship therefore the book is extremely relevant. The book is even more meaningful for those who have experienced numerous situations of loss in love. His statement that love and grief are the most normal, intense human emotions is well supported. By making this statement, he validates and normalizes his readers feelings regarding their love lives.
The Introduction clearly sets the expectations for the reader. Each Part guides the reader in taking the necessary steps to learning, identifying and unlearning unhealthy love methods. Dr. Jordon writes in laymen’s terms so the reader isn’t overcome with technical psychological terminology. The book is simple and straight forward with strong evidence of Love Life Formula. The only concern I have is the steps outlined may be a bit oversimplified and not obtainable without professional assistance.
I rate Learning to Love: Guide to Healing Your Disappointing Love Life a 3 out of 4-star book. Dr. Jordon’s expansion on the Love Life Formula throughout the book creates hope for those struggling with love relationships. With the book’s exceptional editing, it appears to be ready for publication.
