Review by diona_six -- The Spirituality Puzzle
The Spirituality Puzzle by James Rondinone and Renee Rondinone, helped me develop a more clear understanding on the Age of the Gentiles. I also gained knowledge on the not so popular characters of the bible, who are Enos and Enoch and I learnt that, according to the bible Methuselah who is Enoch’s son is the longest living human being.
The book will have details on how someone can have a relationship and fellowship with God (Yahweh) and Jesus. From my understanding, a relationship is attained when an individual believes in the words spoken by Yahweh and Jesus. And fellowship occurs when an individual acts upon what they believe in. The characters used are all from the bible. The authors used King Saul and Lot to show that having no fellowship with Yahweh or Jesus does not mean you do not have a relationship with Him. His explanation in this was rather poor as I did not understand the layout of the examples. During the Church Age, fellowship with God is achieved by being filled with the Holy Spirit, which is maintained by meditating on the word. The Rondinones also wrote about water baptism and whether or not it is required for the repentance of sin.
I had trouble understanding some of the text, especially when the author was explaining the relationship David had with God. The authors were not getting straight to the point and as a result, I ended up getting lost or confused. One thing I did fully understand under the Age of the Gentiles and the Age of Israel, is what was required for an unbeliever to have a relationship with Yahweh, this was well explained.
What I disliked most is the repetition in the book, it annoyed me to re-read text I had read before. This is one of the reasons why I am rating this book 2 out of 4 stars. There was also a lot of unnecessary wording and questions present in the book for example, “Are there Scriptures verses that will help us understand what this gospel message is all about? Yes, there are. Let’s take a look at them.” P.58. James and Renee should just have gotten straight to the point. I would definitely say the book needs another round of editing, because amongst the other things I mentioned, I also came across a typo. Adding on, when I started reading the book, I was actually captivated by it, but as I kept on reading to the end, I genuinely lost interest and just finished for the sake of finishing it. I had also hoped, it would eventually captivate me again, and this only happened on the closing lines. Which brings me to what I liked most in the book; the closing verse from Deuteronomy 12:32 which reads, ‘’see that you do all I command you; do not add to it or take away from it.” According to what I believe the authors were trying to achieve by writing, The Spirituality Puzzle, I felt it was a clever way to end their book.
If you love history, you will enjoy learning a little bit about the Jewish history including their judicial system. I recommend this book to the Christian audience only or anyone who is interested in studying Christianity. If you are an atheist or believe in any other religion that is not Christianity, then this book is not for you.
