Dominica Lumazar, the author of Empowered: The Business Owner’s Guide to Leadership and Success, gives readers a priceless book. Narrated by herself, she starts by taking us through her personal experience growing up and the challenges that she endured throughout her school life. She explains how she rose to become the CEO of Sweet D Marketing and provides valuable insight to leaders based on her wealth of experience in a narration that lasts 3 hours and 22 minutes.

Dominica Lumazar always knew she wanted to be her own boss. Her personal story is an inspiring tale of vision and hope after a life-changing accident. She drew inspiration from her parents, who have both been successful in their entrepreneurial ventures. Having been employed in her younger years, she has experienced the negative side of being an employee. After the accident, she took an interest in her sibling’s start-up. A move that charted the way for her into starting her marketing and consulting company. This is a field that she never studied for but has managed to learn along the way and becoming very successful.

The book has three main sections. These are 1. Leading for success, 2.Business value, and 3.Business clarity. The author tackles various aspects of leadership, such as employer-employee relations, use of technology to advance the business, the importance of going through the books of accounts, customer relations, and work-life balance, among others. Each chapter begins with a quote in line with the theme of the topic to be tackled. The author has also included action steps and links to additional helpful resources at the end of some chapters.

I particularly liked how Dominica addresses the issue of employer-employee relations. She mentions the flaw which most employers have in thinking that every employee is replaceable. A notion that makes leaders dismiss valuable insights from their workers. She provides practical solutions quoting valid examples from her daily experience with various companies. The book also goes into detail about how business owners can successfully market their businesses and improve their bottom lines. I also liked how the book was done in a friendly and conversational tone, making it an easy read. I didn’t find anything to dislike about this book.

The book was excellently edited as I did not identify any errors or use of profane words. I rate it 4 out of 4 stars because it provides practical solutions to a variety of challenges faced by leaders. I recommend this book to people who would like to start or grow a business, especially small and medium-sized companies. For much larger companies, the book will work best for heads of department. Empowered: The Business Owner’s Guide to Leadership and Success by Dominica Lumazar is a small but game-changing book.
