Review by Awilson531 -- The Unbound Soul
If you are looking for an informative and eye-opening introduction to understanding your inner spirit and your soul, then The Unbound Soul by Richard L. Haight is the perfect book for you. The book includes an autobiographical section as well as a guide for those interested in connecting with themselves. It encourages personal awakenings, carefully guided by personal anecdotes, instructions and advice embedded within the experiences of the author.
It follows the true story of a young boy and his own experience with spiritual awakenings, leading him to set out on a journey around the globe gathering specific insight and knowledge into the world of healing and meditation.
Although sections of the book focus on the life of Haight, I felt that as a reader I was being prompted and encouraged the whole way through to start my own journey of personal awareness and understanding my story, and mirror the actions taken by Haight himself. I liked this subtle and gentle yet very effective encouragement the most because I never felt like I was just reading an autobiography, instead being guided by someone who felt like a friend or mentor figure.
If you are looking to contemplate, reflect, ponder, connect with your senses and observe the world in a different way then this book is a perfect place to begin. Since reading I have developed a new outlook on life, one that is bringing me more positive experiences and has led to the development of truly meaningful relationships. I feel as though am able to understand my life and situations within it more, which has transformed my world for the better.
On a slightly more negative note, I liked the somewhat vagueness of some of the ideas, such as the focus on diet, the least. I think that I would perhaps personally prefer to educate myself on diet and nutrition in a separate book which is specifically written for that purpose. On the other hand, I do understand that to fully adopt this new lifestyle and to see the desired impact of his teachings, one must carefully follow the advice of Haight as closely as they can, including advice related to diet.
I found this book to be fascinating and an amazingly simple way of changing my life, so I will be awarding this 3 out of 4 stars. I think it is professionally edited due to the absence of any errors. I also found it to be very effective and not misleading in any way. However, I have deducted one star from the total as I did not find the sections about food and drink appealing to me in this style of book. This would not deter me from recommending this book to anyone, therefore I would definitely encourage those seeking inspiration and guidance to change their life for the better to read this book!
