Review by bhumika_katyayan44 -- How To Be Successful
Self help books can be preachy and boring, and that might make them a little difficult to read. When you decide to read a self help, you don’t want a book that summons sleep, but one that’s interesting to read and have practical principles. How to be successful by M. Curtis McCoy is one in that genre. It is a collection of life lessons and interviews combined, making this an enjoyable read. I give this four out of four stars.
How to be successful is divided in 27 chapters total, that includes 8 interviews and many life lessons. The book starts with inspiring story of author’s own life, and his battle with cancer. The first interview included is that of the author himself. After that, there are interviews of successful people from different runs of life, including businessperson, church pastor, Navy Seal and more. This expands the horizons of the book. The questions are same for all, which start from the definition of success, to their methods of achieving it, taking risk, their way of living life, principles, strengths and weaknesses. The questions being same for everyone allows different perspectives and gives a chance to the readers to compare and analyse.
The book is edited well, and there are nominal typos or spelling/grammatical errors. The book is divided into chapters which makes it easier to read and grasp the concepts provided. The writing style of this book is really good and keeps hooked to the book. The language is easy, and the lessons are topic wise, due ti this the whole reading and learning experience becomes a lot easier. The input from many successful people give a deeper insight, and authors life experiences are written in a very motivational way.
What I liked the most about this book is the way interviews are incorporated into lessons. This made the whole thing connect and gave an insight to apply those principles in practical life. This made the book unique in its ways. There wasn’t much to dislike about the book and that’s why I couldn’t rate it low. The only thing that slightly bothered me was sometimes it became repetitive, and there were a few parts that could be edited and cut short to make the book shorter.
This book can be read by anyone aiming for success. New entrepreneurs, and businesspeople would benefit the most from it, as the author himself has set up a great business empire, and his inputs through the book will allow them to achieve higher success. For students and young readers this provides great concepts for self discipline, delayed gratification. Anyone who wants to succeed in life and reach higher level, should give this book a go.
