I usually prefer reading fictional books as I had always thought that non-fictional books were boring. But for a change, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and pick up M. Curtis McCoy's How to be successful. Boy, am I glad I did that!

In the book, the author interviews eight successful individuals, asking them questions about their strengths, weaknesses, and successes. Curtis himself starts the book by answering these exact questions. He tells us that at the very young age of just 27 months, he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. To make things worse for him, he was diagnosed with brain cancer later on. Because of this, he lost the ability to live and drive independently. Oncologists had told him that he had only 90 days to live but that didn't stop him from pursuing his dreams. He defeated cancer and carried on living life to the fullest. Through this book, he shows us that he didn't let his disability get in the way to become a successful businessman.

In total, there were 15 questions in each of the interviews. These questions discussed things such as the definition of success, prioritization, how to manage opportunities, commitments, and talking about your strengths and weaknesses. In addition to these interviews, the author also gives us advice on attitude, habits, and how to get others to respect you.

What I love about this book is how the author provided a story, quote, or example after giving the reader advice or insight about being successful. It wasn't like a textbook that forced you to concentrate and extract the information yourself. It helped you understand the book and the author's insight better with the given examples and quotes. Personally, it helped me reflect on myself and connect with the words on the page much better.

The author did a splendid job in the layout of the interviews and advice. It flowed together very nicely. It was structured pleasantly with the author's insights right after each interview.

This book has inspired me a lot. I have learnt a lot from these various personalities in their interviews as each answer was different. It was delightful to learn from multiple prosperous people.

The book was professionally edited. However, there is a mention of Christian faith and belief in this book with many biblical references. People who are delicate to faith-based beliefs might not like that side of the book. But this didn't reduce the positive messages that the book was trying to convey. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars for all the motivational messages about positive thinking and attitude changing to be successful in terms of money and life. I would recommend this book to anyone going through a hard time and need a boost in their life. Also, to people who feel stuck in their job situations. Nevertheless, it is something we all need to read at one point in our life, to keep our mind and body positive to help achieve our goals.
