The book Effective leaders and leadership written by Mildred Stallworth is a wonderful book as well as a prime example of what it means to be an effective leader among your people. The book grapples topics of effective leadership, various characteristics a leader is expected to have and modern day examples of leaders. Ranging from leaders in the workplace to politicians and spiritual leaders.

It is not drawn out, quite concise and understandable for many thinking of taking up leadership positions in different areas of their lives but do not really know where to start. The quotes from recognizable leaders we know of today, reinforces the message Stallworth wishes to reciprocate. The book tackles the practicalities of exemplifying different leadership styles in different areas of one’s life. Therefore, you will be sure to note that the type of leader you are seeking to be, Stallworth would have had it covered.

What I thoroughly enjoyed about the book is the very fact that we were not only dealing with theoretical aspects of what it means to be an effective leader but also practical aspects. The book touched on the fact that everyone has the ability to be a leader, but it takes some skills to be an effective and influential leader. This thereby creates a welcoming and inviting message to readers that believe that leadership is for the chosen and select few. One of my favourite moments in the book is the spiritual aspect that Stallworth delved into. Broadening my understanding of what it means to be a spiritual leader in my church and community. Bible quotes gave the book that extra depth, truth and practicability that I appreciated.

The different aspects of leadership that the book touched on was quite remarkable and thoughtful as this welcomed a variety of readers to take interest in the book. This thoughtfulness is exactly the reason why I could not particularly find anything displeasing when reading. Consequently, if you are looking for a book that can assist you as a leader or improve your leadership skills, then I firmly believe that this is the book for you.

This book not only teaches one how to be a leader among your peers or followers but how to be an effective and influential one. Therefore, I would happily rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. This is because not only was the book well written with different types of readers or leaders in mind, but the relevant examples and quotations made it easy to understand as well as to apply to to one’s life.
