We Don't Just Eat Lettuce! by Allyn Raifstanger is a book worth your purchase. Informative and entertaining, the book has a lot to say about the facts of a vegan lifestyle. We follow the story of Allyn as he overcomes his high blood and pre-diabetic problems. Allyn shares some of the most significant discoveries that have permanently affected his life, hoping that it could help his readers' lives.

True to its cover, the whole book is a cookbook. Eighty percent of the book will be all about the ingredients you need to prepare, specific measurements to make, and a high-quality cuisine you can bring to the family table. The other twenty percent is about Allyn's journey from being a once-carnivorous to the full vegan alternative eater. He had very relatable experiences and troubles that make the book a significant life-changing experience. I encourage others to try his book, especially people who plan to start a vegan diet because the book is beginner-friendly.

I love best about the book is how there are so many recipes to choose from. The book has easy to make snacks, sophisticated dishes, and even my favorite food: soup. It gives a wide range of selection for the readers' preference, and I’m sure the next reader will also find their favorite dish here! The author is truly a great chef.

Some of the things I did not find, however, was a meal plan or a nutrition guide. While the book does a good job advocating the health benefits of a vegan lifestyle, it did not break down the specific nutrients of each meal. I find this necessary because, just like any other food, too much of something can be bad for your health. This is especially true with nutrients. For example, if you have diabetes, you must avoid certain fruits with high fructose, because they have a lot of natural sugar that can make your situation worse. Therefore, I discourage readers who think this book is an alternative solution to health problems.

Another problem I had encountered was the author’s recommendation on his grocery list. He gives particular brands to buy, and none of which are available in my local country of the Philippines. Some readers may face the same struggles, but residents of the United States would probably find this helpful.

Overall, I give the book a 4 out of 4 stars. The problems I found are situational and not applicable to all audiences. I found no grammatical errors in its content. The book has generally covered all the facts that it needed to. It delivers more than what I initially expected and doing so in an instructional but enjoyable format.
