Review by Susmita Biswas -- We Don't Just Eat Lettuce!
Food is an inseparable part of our lives. A lot of things depend on the food that we eat like health, behavior, mood, physical structure, immunity, etc. Allen Raifstanger discerned the importance of correct food, and he suffered a lot for taking unhealthy food. Allen shared his experience with everybody through his book We Don't Just Eat Lettuce! so that every person can understand and try to change their diet.
Allyn was brought up in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. Allyn has never seen fast food during his childhood. But, one day MacDonald established and everything changed after that. After several years in the hotel business, he started Allyn's Cafe in 1991. Allen always preferred fast food and non-veg food like majority of people in the United States. But this habit summoned lots of diseases in his body. After some years of medication, Dr. Getson's documentaries changed his ideology, and he became a complete vegetarian.
Allen shared all the benefits he got, and he wrote about how he became disease-free.
I mostly liked Allyn's writing style because it was friendly, detailed, and insightful. Allyn used his own mistakes to convey the message of quitting meat and fast food, and it made the book more inspiring. He answered all the questions that readers can think about. Allyn used simple language to write his book, and that's why I called it friendly. I never realized that it was non-fiction because the author conveyed his message through storytelling way. Besides that, it was a very informative book, and some of the information was even interesting to know about. Firstly, he wrote about his own mistakes. Secondly, he explained why we don't get rid of diseases after obeying doctors blindly. Thirdly, he gave the details about becoming disease-free. For all these reasons, I think this book is very informative, and a lot of people would get help from it.
I didn't find anything wrong in this book. Our habits are worthy of making our lives hell or heaven. If we try, we can throw diseases miles away from us, even cancer, that Allyn told in his book. I totally agree with him, and there are lots of examples in this world. Indian Yogic Diet provides the right way to stay healthy, and it's thousands of years old.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I didn't give it a 3 because I liked the book very much, and I didn't find anything wrong. The book was professionally edited. I found only some minor typos. There was no profanity in this book. I recommend this book to those people who want a better and healthy life. I think everybody should get inspiration from Allyn and try to skip fast food.
