The cells that make up our bodies constantly replace themselves. Those cells that make you who you are now are completely replaced by new cells every seven to ten years. Theoretically speaking, this means that you become a completely different person every seven to ten years. Hopefully when this happens, the new you is an even better version than the one before.

But you do not have to wait those seven to ten years to completely change who you are. If you’re looking to overhaul your life for the better, if you’re looking to make big, long-lasting improvements to your existence then The MISOGI Method is a good place to start.

Having studied the ancient Shinto ritual of Misogi, author Jody B. Miller has spent her life helping others to reach heights they never thought they could. The MISOGI Method is her written guide, helping you become the best you that you can be. Using her modern day spin on this ancient Japanese practice, this book is an interactive how-to guide in setting goals, finding the personal meaning behind those goals, and reflecting back once those goals are complete.

Miller has written a book that anyone and everyone would benefit from reading. Whether you dream big but have difficulty focusing, little dreams but want to aim higher, or have no dreams at all but want to start down the road to improvement, you will find value in this book.

Miller’s colloquial style of writing can be endearing, however her anecdotal references - which have little to no evidential backing - should be taken with a pinch of salt. The author writes purely from what she’s learned through her own life. While those lessons are valuable, they may not be translatable to everyone who reads the book. Furthermore, because her writing style is so relaxed and friendly, at times it can come across as unprofessional.

That being said, once you sift through all the sand and grit, you are left with a nugget of gold. The Misogi Method really does work. Having read the book and followed Miller’s guidance, I can say that it has improved my life and shown me that I can achieve things that I thought would not be possible.

This is why I give The MISOGI Method 2 out of 4 Stars. The writing itself reduces the score considerably, but because her teachings have substantial value and real life application, the book is salvaged.

The Misogi Method is an easy read. It is instructive and sincere, and the lessons applicable to improving your life will stay with you forever. If you want to see your true potential and discover what you can really become, read this book.
