Review by rhodaa_ -- The Mindset by Ace Bowers
For some reason I fell in love with this book immediately I saw the title, The Mindset by Ace Bowers is a great memoir. I couldn't drop the book till I finished reading it. I will recommend this book to other without second thoughts. It is a great read and it was worth the time I put into reading it. The Mindset is a memoir of Ace Bowers, the southern discuss his childhood, young adult life and how he had to change his life from a minimum wage janitor to a multimillionaire living in one of the most expensive cities in America. In this narrative different salient issues that most adults experience is discusses ranging from Drug abuse, mental health issues, financial independence amongst others.
I mean Ace Browers infused quite a number of things into this memoir. He discussed quite a number of mental health issues ranging such as anxiety, depression, suicide etc. he discussed the essence of compartmentalizing emotions which I believe is an essential part of emotional intelligence. Although, at the first instance when the author narrates his relationship with his family I already had some judgments for his parents, however, I like that he goes on to help the readers empathize with his parents by narrating the traumatic background of his mother and he helps us (the readers) to understand what leads to the actions of his mother.
I also appreciate that in this short narrative, Ace Browers was able to discuss financial independence and ways of achieving this while he narrates the story in chapter 5 titled ‘Millionaire Moves’ alongside without the need to compartmentalize or explicitly list by stating ‘ways of achieving financial independence’. I mean, he talked about real estate, stock, different side hustles amongst other things.
I will also like to add that the title of the book perfectly fits the narrative because the narrative adequately discusses how a mindset change can set a person up to live a fulfilled life. Also, I like the way each chapter is titled, it gives the reader a feel of what the chapter narrates. There is a particular chapter titled ‘Rock bottom and a Mop Bucket’ this chapter literally discusses what it is to hit rock bottom. There is also another chapter titled ‘Band of Brothers’ amongst others.
I mean I can hardly point out a single thing I don’t like about the book; I learnt quite a number of things that I had to put down in my journal. I would rate it a 4 out of 4 stars. and I will strongly recommend it to others. I will recommend this book to young adults who are trying to figure out a way to thrive against all odds, to people who do not want to be complacent or settle for less. Finally, I will like to add that the book was exceptionally added because I didn't notice any spelling or grammatical errors.
