From Drift to Shift: How Change Can Bring True Meaning and Happiness to Your Work and Life written by Jody B. Miller is a book about how you can stop drifting through life, doing what you have always done or doing what others expect you to do, and shift your life to one that brings you happiness and meaning.

This book encourages us to take a long hard look at our lives, determine our priorities, and think about what we really want to do. Miller explains that making a change for the better may not be easy, but it may be the catalyst that brings us the happiness we crave.

Miller learned the importance of changing from drift to shift through life experiences and interviewing others. She traveled to the Amazon to visit the Achuar tribe; she visited with Manoj at a yoga retreat; she interviewed several individuals who have changed from drifting through life to shifting and refocusing their lives. She does all these things in hopes of learning more about herself. In doing so, she connects with other people and learns how they shifted their lives to find their purpose. Miller shares what she learned through her experience with us.

The heartwarming stories of other individuals are shared in this book, describing the life changing events that encouraged them to initiate and complete their shift. The stories are inspirational, provide strategies on how to shift, and show strength and courage that others have undergone to conquer obstacles in life.

What I liked the most about this book were the stories of others. I learned a little about myself in the process. It made me reflect on my own life and what is most precious to me.

What I disliked the most were the rough transitions. When reading from one chapter to another, it was sometime difficult to see how the chapters fit together. There seemed to be different writing styles throughout the book. It almost seemed like different people wrote different sections. In addition, I had a hard time relating the titles of the Parts and the Chapters to those sections in the book. They did not seem to align well. The transitions from one chapter to another could be clearer and smoother. There were also some paragraphs within chapters that seemed disconnected.

I rate this book 2 out of 4 . It inspired me, but it was not a smooth read. And there were several errors in the book. This book is most appropriate for adults.
