Review by jvmlcy -- My Purpose by Bruce Francois
Dreams and goals. These two are what most of us are dying hard to accomplish. From when we were young, to our youth, and up to this day, in adulthood, we still work as hard as we can just to reach these two. Easy as it seems when we start dreaming and planning out how to reach them, as older we get, the harder and confusing it gets. Along the way, we start to falter and be discouraged until, slowly, we are losing our sanity, our determination, our drive, and our identity. We start to question whether we are still taking the right direction, the right path, or if we are just trying too hard for something that is not meant for us. We begin to self-doubt and develop insecurity and fear. So, we try to evaluate our life, ourselves, our decisions, and our purpose. At first glance and probably, at two as well, we thought our contentment and our happiness are on the earthly things such as money, cars, gadgets, and other properties, and so, we focus on having them. Then, we owned some of it, and still, we were unhappy and worse, we might have felt empty.
Sometimes, we try to know our purpose in the wrong facet of life; we focus more on the earthly things that this world could offer that we tend to forget the real essence of living. It is true that knowing our purpose is where we will find contentment and happiness because that’s the time where we don’t have to question out things and self-doubt. We will have an idea of what path we should take and what kind of life we should aim to have. But in order to have that kind of clarity, we need to go back from the very beginning and understand life better. That is what Bruce Francois, the author of the book My Purpose: Become the Best You did in his life.
In the book, he went back to his beginnings and tried to understand everything that happened in his life and connected it to his present life. He goes into detail of his failure and his internal struggles and how those things have changed his outlook in life and how it led him to where he is now. Bruce did not write the book in a forceful manner but instead, he tries to let his reader envision his life and his perception about it. Given that he is also a Christian, he had some biblical and religious sentiments that helped him cope with everything, understand everything that happened and find his purpose in life.
The thing that I love the most about the book is its rawness and honesty. The author did not overshadow anything just to make it appealing to its readers. Everything about the book is all from his experience and understanding and is written in the first person. Also, the author included guide questions every after each chapter to help the readers reflect and take time to evaluate themselves in relation to the highlight of each chapter which is a brilliant idea because readers will have a clearer guide.
I am giving this book a 4 out of 4 stars. The book is well written and well-edited. I recommend this book to everyone with any religious affiliates.
