Review by jvmlcy -- The Mindset by Ace Bowers
The Mindset is a non-fiction book, based on real-life story. Ace Bowers, the author of this book wrote his own life story, from when he was a kid living in a bit wrecked, complete family to his adult years earning a minimum wage, and barely living. His life story is not that far from most kids who grew up in a wrecked family; a mother who has bad drunk habits, a father who is not expressive, and a brother who always gets imprisoned, only that his mother still takes care of them when she is sober, his father loves them so much, and his brother is somehow protective of him, and they are a complete family who still believes in God.
Growing up, he developed undiagnosed depression and anxiety. He lives in denials, pretensions, and anger, all in secret. He grew up with a jaundiced mindset, something negative. Yet, it did not trigger him to end his life, maybe he knew deep inside that he needed to live. He lived half of his life in poverty. His parents cannot afford to go to college. During the time where he should be attending a university, he is busy looking for a job to earn money. It was too difficult for him to find a decent job with a higher salary and he even gets rejected a lot of times. He almost gave up, but he saw an opportunity to work as a janitor, it has a minimum wage, yet he humbly took that opportunity to earn money. From then, his life changes when a new chapter opened in his life, and he used it as a driving force to succeed. Now, he is a millionaire.
The author shared through his journey how changing your mindset into something positive could make a huge change in your life. His inspirational memoir tells how he from being uneducated, overweight, and lost self changed into someone better, determined, inspired, and motivated. His growth changes his true definition of what it means to be successful.
To be honest, this book is so perfect! It teaches readers how your mindset can affect your outlook in life. It showed me that nothing is impossible with a strong drive, passion, willingness to grow, and motivation. All is possible if you continue to work hard towards your goals. A college degree won’t matter if you know what you want, and you are willing to grow coming from the bottom. Open-mindedness is one of the keys to success that I learned from his experience. He uses his painful past as his strength in the present to bring himself up to success. He kept himself motivated and determined. He grabbed every opportunity that came to his way and let himself out of his comfort zone to grow. He let himself be surrounded by different people, may it be someone successful or some who are lost in the track. He stayed humble and kept his humility.
I will give this book a 4 out of 4 stars. It is not only inspirational, but you will learn a lot. A bit of life-wise advice that you can apply in reality. I did not see any errors with the grammars and spelling, I guess it is well-edited and well-written. Kudos to the author with a life-changing book. He narrated his journey in a well-organized timeline. The book is for everyone not underage. It also contains explicit yet vague scenarios, but not too much.
