From starting her small business to becoming a reputable Strategic Marketing and Branding Consultant, Dominica Lumazar is now also an author. Empowered: The Business Owner’s Guide to Leadership & Success poses questions business owners should ask about their leadership style and answer queries they might have about having a business. She has proven time and time again how effective her strategies are and imparts her knowledge in this book.

Empowered is divided into three parts, making it easy to navigate. The first part recounts her childhood up to her college years and the beginning of Sweet D Marketing. Parts two and three focuses on Business Value and Business Clarity, respectively. She believes everyone is a marketer one way or another because our lifestyle choices, how we dress, and what car we drive are representative of how we "sell" ourselves to others.

Lumazar delved into marketing through her passion for music, her advocacy for suicide prevention, and giving back to the community. But it was not long until she realized she had to pick one thing to focus on. It was from there that she ventured with her company where she had to start from scratch. It has always been her goal to start her own business and be her own boss, so she set to it that she learned everything she needed to know from building a website, launching a brand, and being adept in social media marketing. She was able to do all these through online courses, which I believe is an invaluable resource we have today.

What I liked about the book is it’s brief, concise, and very informative. It somehow felt like Lumazar was giving me a one-on-one consultation. Her advice was practical and applicable to any business, especially for those looking to shift from traditional to digital marketing. I also appreciated that she would explain marketing jargon such as “geofencing.” The flow of the book was natural, and I found no errors while reading. Suffice to say, I didn’t dislike anything.

From a personal and business standpoint, Empowered was well-rounded which is why I give it a 4 out of 4 stars. It’s apt to equip leaders and business owners with the knowledge that they need to succeed. By the end, they should be able to identify why they want to launch their own business, where they currently are in the business or which steps they need to implement. Whether they are just in the initial stages of their business or have been in the business for a while, leaders will find this guide useful.

I wish that I had had something like this when I was starting my business. She has learned several things from browsing the internet and I find her use of online courses fascinating.
