Ripcord Recovery is a non-fiction book that shows how one can fight addiction. The book shows the story of an addict who spent years of his life managing his family and corporate life while fighting his addiction. Based on his experiences, T.T. Sawyer presents us with a counterintuitive way to get rid of addiction.

The book details the author’s history of alcohol addiction and his struggles every time he goes to relapse. After researching about the use of medical marijuana to treat opium cravings and alcoholism, he experimented with marijuana when he felt that a relapse to alcoholism is inevitable. Contrary to the expectations of doctors, the author noticed that marijuana was improving his health and helping him going through rehab. While the author warns that marijuana is not a cure for alcoholism, he admits that it became a helpful tool for him to live through his life.

The book shows an enlightening path towards managing one’s addiction. The author makes use of his relapse to portray the reality of his struggles. It’s illuminating to see that even though the author is successful in his career, he defined his life with his addiction. I think that this makes the author’s struggles closely relatable since the book can be read in any context related to addiction (not just alcoholism).

The author is also aware that the use of marijuana may not work on anyone. For him, it was his last resort when nothing else worked. He was indeed fortunate that he can manage his alcoholism with marijuana. I think that the author showed a great deal of responsibility to his readers.

My only issue with the book is that it is too short. For some readers, the length of the book is good enough, but I just prefer inspirational stories that dwell on everyday challenges. Of course, this all boils down to a matter of taste. Nevertheless, I think that the book adequately captures the journey of the author.

It’s amazing to know that one can always find ways to recover from a downward spiral. We see this in T.T. Sawyer's experience. Overall, Ripcord Recovery is a short, yet wonderful read that can help inspire people. After considering the aforementioned factors, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. While people should always seek professional help when they’re having problems with addiction, I can recommend this book to those who are looking for other options to manage their addiction.

Hmm. A very sensitive topic, very brave of the author to tell. I would like to see how marijuana helps him in his alcohol relapse without him being addicted. Thanks for the review.

I also reviewed this book and came to the same conclusions as you did. As a last resort, I am glad that marijuana helped him, but I wonder about the long term success of his method.

I also read and reviewed this book, and I wish it was longer! I would have loved to delve more into the author's life. I think that he did not want to include too much personal information to protect his anonymity. Maybe that is one of the reasons why the book is that short? Thank you for your well-written review.
