A healthy life has two main components, a balanced meal plan and daily workout routines. Nowadays, there’s false information on health, nutrition and fitness plans all over the internet and in the everyday life that has left many people living unhealthy lives. Health Tips, Myths, and Tricks: A Physician’s Advice by Morton E. Tavel, MD is a self-help book guiding the reader on a way to a healthy lifestyle, uncovering some of the myths one may find and help avoid being tricked.

This book has three sections. First, the author explains how someone can have a healthy lifestyle by providing several tips on good nutrition and fitness. Also, some common myths of the fitness and health industry are covered. These are usually misconceptions on what’s healthy or not, hacks people believe are keys to a better lifestyle. Tricks or scams coming from products designed for consumption, just to make a person spend their money on buying them or subscribing to a coaching plan. Each of the sections of the book contains chapters and subtopics.

Morton E. Tavel, MD uses his scientific background and research to back up his opinions. He keeps it very professional as he covers all areas and narrows his conclusion to the very best option. The book also contains many references that the reader can investigate to dig deeper into a specific topic if there’s a need to form a personal conclusion.

Personally, I enjoyed the amount of useful information each chapter contains. A lot of the diets have been investigated or analyzed. I have lived a couple of years visiting doctors to help me keep good control of my weight, balanced diets and workout routines. Even though I had a good notion of what living healthy is, I can still say this book is helpful to become aware of what one is putting inside their body. There is a constant reminder that the choice to live healthily is personal. I did my copy had a confusing edition layout, the numbering on each chapter was a bit different from other books.

Overall, I rate Health Tips, Myths, and Tricks 4 out of 4 stars because of the content, very well backed up and very useful information. I highly recommend this book to people trying to make a change in their lifestyle and aim for a healthier one.
