Review by Elvis Ondijo -- The Mindset by Ace Bowers
The Mindset by Ace Bowers is a motivational memoir covering the life of the author from a janitor to a millionaire within five years despite not having an academic degree. Ace came from a blue-collar family, his father was an ex-navy officer and the mother too never went past high school, the parents were just High school sweethearts.
The motivational memoir is divided into 10 chapters each chapter is a build up of the other except for chapter 5 which talks about the Ace jobs and how he became a millionaire even working for Google one of the top firm in the country by then. Bowers started working in a motel as a janitor earning $ 6 an hour, despite the minor salary he was earning he was determined and continue working hard though facing constant challenge of a fight at home by the parents after getting drunk every evening. The mother was alcoholic addict, which she did to reveal herself from stress, she had been molested by the father, Ace's grandfather while she was young.
The Mindset traverses themes of friendship, family , marriage and even death. Ace meets Yuka a Japanese girl who becomes her roommate and later her wife. Yuka works as a catalyst in turning her sweetheart life when she informed him that she was pregnant, this was the turning point of Ace's life. The word "am pregnant", was like an eye opener to him and that's when he started working hard so that his kids would not pass through what he did, he wanted to break the vicious circle.
The 120 pages book is encouraging and enjoyable to read as the language in it is simple to understand and the continues suspense used by the author makes the reader to continue reading the book. The book exposes the author as principled man when he never followed his friends advice for Yuka to carry on the abortion. His humane nature is also seen when he tries to help his friends Antony who had become a drug addict and later passed away due to overdose. Ace regrets this scene as he sees that he had not put much effort in helping Antony.
I find the book to be interesting all over, and I didn't find any issues that would lead me to believe the book wasn't professionally edited, no use of any profane language and erotic scene, though the book was short I would have liked to continue reading it.
I choose to rate The Mindset 4 out of 4 stars because I never found anything that would make me deduct a point. I recommend the book to any individual who finds success by reading or listening to other people successfully story.

Thanks so much for reading and commenting on my reviewEclecticmama wrote: ↑11 Mar 2020, 14:22 It sounds like Ace has had a painful past, and I hope he was able to come to terms with it. Its nice to see that he was able to become a millionaire despite not having an academic degree. I always root for people who start from nothing and work their way to the top. Mainly because that is the route my family is trying to take as well. Thank you for the review!
