Review by Ojaydee -- The Mindset by Ace Bowers
In The Mindset, Ace Bowers shares the intriguing story of his tumultuous childhood and what becomes of him as an adult. We're taken into a world where everything surrounding him contradicts growth, and Ace has to deal with always being the poorest kid in school, having parents who spend more than half their pay on drinks - and then fight every single night, he must carry the stigma of a family member in jail, and he constantly battles with a growing sense of depression, loneliness, and hopelessness.
He carries all this weighty baggage into his early adulthood and watches himself slowly becoming the very failure he always feared as a child. He gradually begins to give up any hope of experiencing a better life than what is surrounding him.
Then life, in its typical unpredictable manner, plays a card he least expects, and Ace
is suddenly faced with a decision to make that will alter the course of his life forever - for better or for worse.
The priceless gems of information and insight on human behavior contained in this book have caused me to fall hopelessly in love with it and its author. Ace brings lessons from his experiences that are so profound and insightful, and he convinces you beyond any reasonable doubt that your mindset, not your background, is what determines your success or failure as an individual. He demonstrates an uncanny ability to harness even his worst experiences, using them to become a better person and developing the skills relevant to his chosen career.
Ace repackages the concept of the winning attitude so that it ceases to look like the old, cliché stuff we're used to, and with each turn of the page he wins you over to his way of thinking more and more.
I rate The Mindset a 4 out of 4 stars - with all my heart! Ace did an incredibly amazing job narrating his life’s experiences and drawing lessons from them. For someone who is not even a writer by profession, his articulation and command of English really impressed me. The book's editing was so well done; I noticed no single error or typo in the process of reading - although I enjoyed it so much, I had to occasionally remind myself that I was supposed to be reviewing it! I dislike nothing about the book - except maybe that I finished it too soon. I wish there was more to read, more to learn from this amazing personality. But this book is perfect as it is; it conveys its intended message and does not need any addition or omission that I can think of.
People who love motivational and self-development literature will gain a lot from this book and be proud to have it in their library.
