Review by Sowjanya 4801 -- The Mindset by Ace Bowers
As said in the introduction and the book description, this book takes across Ace's life till he becomes a millionaire. Growing up in Mountain View, California, in a blue-collared family, he was the youngest of three kids. His oldest brother was always in and out of jail as far as he remember. His middle sister was his biggest support growing up, who protected him from of the regularly accuring madness. Living with parents who couldn't manage money and overly indulged in alcohol and tobacco, and their regular fighting. This traumatic experience left Ace in depression. Knowing the difference in financial condition between his and other kids household left him embarrassed, the constant fear that he will be the next rumour if they knew his family's living condition, he did everything to shield himself before one could know him.
This made him to grow up early from his childhood, when other kids of his age were enjoying the life, his top priority was to protect himself from anyone coming close enough to see his real self. Completely depending on pay-check, their life was shaken from the routine when his father lost his job as machinist at Stanford University. They shifted houses few times until his father bartered a house in exchange of all the repairs for free. Going through humiliation and bully in the school he somehow graduated his but to stop his studies. Two years, many bad habits, debts, which he had to overcome later. With his aunt's help he was somehow managing his life, when life decided to throw a biggest curve ball of his life, where Ace has to decide which path he was going to take: continue the cycle of living on pay-check to pay-check or break it.
The Mindset is an inspirational memoir of Ace Bowers. This book has ten chapters. And each chapter focusing on something in his life. As the title says, "Mindset", is the main thing which made Ace to literally ace in his life. He says "Motivation is powerful and one should never ignore the fire it can spark within". Only determination and hardwork can get you somewhere in life. Waiting for luck to do wonders is foolish. A true motivational story.
What I loved about this book is Bowers did not give advices like other motivational books. But he gives a brief glimpse in his life. All he had in possession was motivation and mindset which he calls as overcomer's mindset, because of which he became millionaire from a janitor within 5years. His life is really full of ups and downs. A child shouldn't have to notice these kinds of things- this words really made me wonder how traumatic he would have felt.
This book is written in simple language, and it is a straight forward story. I rate this book 4 out of 4. I really felt motivated reading this book. I recommend this to anyone who loves to read realistic and motivational stories.
