The Mindset by Ace Bowers provides the reader with a detailed account of his personal life including his many trials and tribulations. He alludes to many personal quirks and psychological fall-outs that may have resulted from his somewhat turbulent upbringing. Finally, he examines how the varied events of his childhood and early adult life helped to shape him into the successful man that he is today.

The author begins by recounting his very humble beginnings and the naivete with which he initially approached his childhood. Eventually he became aware that his family was different from that of his peers and his outlook on life changed- he became ashamed and defensive and rarely dared to let anyone close to his dysfunctional family.

His early adult life was equally filled with tribulations as he was unhealthy and working for minimum wage. He feared that he was about to follow in his family's footsteps until he met his future wife who, on becoming pregnant with their first child, became the catalyst for change in his life.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars as The Mindset proved to be a succinct yet engaging autobiography. The author chose to adopt a somewhat conversational tone which worked well as I empathized with many of his childhood struggles. I like that Bowers used descriptive title chapters and kept the chapters concise. Additionally, there were no grammatical errors.

The subtitle of the book reads "My Journey from Janitor to Silicon Valley Millionaire in Five Years". This subtitle led me to believe that the author would place more emphasis on specific things that he did to become a "self made millionaire". However, only one chapter really dealt with this but this did not take away from the overall message that the author intended to deliver.

I would recommend this book for anyone who has ever felt that they are incapable of accomplishing their goals because of perceived inferiority. This author is definitive proof that anything is possible with hard work and dedication.
