"Nothing is ever a waste of time if you learn something from it."

Ace Bowers did the right thing for sharing his life story by writing this memoir. The story kicks off when Ace was working as a janitor at a motel in Oregon. After hearing his wife was pregnant, doubts had started to fill his mind. During that time, he felt cornered by the situation he was in, and so he found himself staring at the pail of murky water he has on the side where he saw his reflection.

Was he ready to become a father? How can he raise his future family by just making 'minimum wage' while still paying his credit debt? Was he about to repeat what his parents did? Will his child experience the same childhood life he had?

This, for Ace, is his wake up call to pull himself together and to realize this should give him the motivation to work harder. I think it's amazing how people can change themselves almost instantly by having a particular reason. Having experienced a life in poverty before, Ace wishes nothing else but to prevent his family from being in that nightmare. I really liked this part of the story because it shows that even if we were miserable and unfortunate in the past, we can still shape a brighter future ahead of us.

I can say that there was no part of this story I can find myself disliking. Each chapter tells different important scenarios of Ace' life that he shares with the intention of inspiring the readers to continue living and never give up. I thought of the quotation, "There's always a rainbow after the rain.". In addition, it tells us that having the right and proper mindset will help us meet our goals in the right path. It will be our guide towards our desired destination.

I greatly appreciate the last few chapters where Ace has finally gotten to talk with his family on how everything that happened before in their lives made him what he is today. The reason for his parents fighting every night and his older brother, Billy, who was in and out of the jail for 20 years that took toll to his mental health. This proves that family is what can greatly influence a person whether on physical doings, mental thinkings and spiritual beliefs that is why having a healthy relationship with them can help us grow and be a better person.

The Mindset truly deserves none other than a 4 out of 4 stars for its well-written chapters, great content and exceptional editing. The ending was very satisfying and it didn't feel like it was rushed. Readers that enjoys inspirational, motivational and real life based story will definitely enjoy this. There are no profanity language found and the story doesn't focus on any certain religious belief.

That trauma connection between generations is a scary one. It is always inspiring to read about someone who can break out of it.
