Review by Arun Bohra -- The Mindset by Ace Bowers
The book “The Mindset” by Ace Bowers is a fantastic motivating book. This is a perfect book to motivate you to adjust your mindset and get your butt in gear.
The author’s childhood didn’t contain many pleasant memories. He was raised by parents who were addicted to alcohol. He had one brother, older than him by 10 years and a sister 5 years older than him. His mother and father would drink and fight nearly every night. During the times Ace’s parents fought, which seemed never-ending. It wasn’t as bad for him with his sister there. She always protected him and reassured him that everything would be fine. He would seek refuge in her room during the altercations, and she would comfort him and tell me not to listen to them. She always reminded him that it wasn’t our fault.
The whole income of his father was spent on buying liquor and cigarettes and Ace believes that this was the only reason that they were poor. Being poor, Ace’s parents could not afford to buy him new stuff for his school and he had to go to school with what was handed to him from his elder brother. He has to face all the shame among all his rich friends. His friends used to invite him to their houses but he never invited them in turn just because they were poor and his parents used to fight a lot.
Just after he passes high school, he becomes addicted to smoking and is depressed. But his aunt Cindi seems an angle to him as he offers him to live in Oregon with her daughter Brittany for free, away from his parents. After some time they rented a room to Yuka (a Japanese student). Ace used to work as a Janitor and earned $6 per hour. He falls in love with Yuka. One day, while working, Ace gets a message from Yuka that she was pregnant. This incident changes the entire life of Ace. Read on to see how a positive mindset can change the life of a person.
This book teaches the value of hard work and how a positive mindset in difficult situations can change the whole lifestyle of a person. Ace finds positive things inside his parents and brother even after suffering his whole life because of them. This book gives us motivation and inspires to do hard work. Most of us can relate his situation to that of Ace to see that if we are doing the right things.
The part of the book which I liked the most was when he describes his time spent with his children. I liked the way he teaches his children the moral values of life.
I would like to give a perfect rating to this book - 4 stars out of 4 because this book shares valuable lessons of life and I think that this memoir can help people who need some inspiration or are dealing with some sort of problems in their life.
