Review by Sonja Jacobs -- The BadRedhead Media 30-Day Bo...
Ever wondered what social media can mean for you as an author, blogger or businessman? Ever wondered if it is really necessary to use social media as a marketing platform? Is it just too much effort?
In The BadRedhead Media 30-day Book Marketing Challenge, Rachel Thompson, discuss how social media marketing can be simplified and used productively without too much effort. Okay, effort is always required, but with Rachel Thompson’s advice, it becomes simplified, easy to follow processes that will definitely change your mind.
This book takes you through a 30-day marketing challenge containing a wealth of Twitter and Facebook secrets, marketing ideas, promotions and give-away's. It even touches on Instagram, YouTube and Pinterest as possible marketing platforms. It explains the importance of a well-constructed website, blog and the value of SEO (Search Engine Optimization).
The 30 lessons contain steps that are clear and practical. At the end of each lesson an easy to follow, very practical assignment can be completed. The book contains links to websites and additional sources with related and valuable information on social media marketing.
The BadRedhead Media 30-day Book Marketing Challenge by Rachel Thompson, is written using an informal, very casual writing style. Rachel Thompson is an expert in the field of social media marketing with years of experience. When looking at her accomplishes she practice what she preaches. She expertly shows off her experience in the social media marketing field with an authority that only comes from years of trial and error.
I would recommend the book to any author, blogger and business owner. In the modern world everything has an online presence. Once online it cannot be separated from social media. Therefore, this book is an absolute must read. However, I will not recommend the book for novice social media users just starting out. The actions discussed assume certain prior knowledge of social media platforms. I suggest reading the book in electronic form such as .pdf as there are many links that can be followed, if activated. The content of images is not very clear but can be enlarged in electronic form. This will not be possible using paper back.
What I liked most about the book is the contents and wealth of information that the writer shares. This information is not always openly available on the Internet and to me that is where the value of this book lies. On the flip slide, the book is very poorly formatted. If formatted at all, it wasn’t professionally done. For example, the margins, line spacing and paragraph spacing are not consistent, assignments are incorrectly numbered, the bolding and italicizing of fonts are inconsistent and the links are not activated. Although I picked up a few spelling and grammar errors, it may be overlooked due to the writing style. The writing style is very informal, which is fine, but there is a slang-like style added to the informality. To me, this indicates that the book was written for an American or maybe a Canadian audience as it may be difficult for a wider audience to understand the slang-like style.
In closing, I would rate the book 3 out of 4 stars, based purely on value of content. The poor formatting and inactive links keep me from giving a 4-star rating.
