Review by Chirlerona -- Happy Healing by Dominique Bourlet
Happy Healing by Dominique Bourlet is an interesting and informative read. It presents the healing method developed by the author on the basis of his experience in alternative medicine and manual therapy.
The approach to healing described in the book focuses on embracing your pain with love. You will learn how to interact with your body, especially with its problematic parts. I found it rather refreshing that it is suggested to give the suffering part of your body a name and to talk to it as though it is a person. There are eight steps that you must follow. Dominique takes you through each of them in detail, so you will be left with a clear understanding what to do and how to apply the method of Happy Healing. You will also find useful recommendations at the end of each chapter and even some templates of the documents to complete during the healing process with your symptoms and your progress.
It is a rather unusual approach - seeing pain not as a negative factor that you only need to get rid of, but as something positive. Something that is trying to help you to identify the problem area within your body by drawing your attention to it. If you follow the techniques suggested by the author, it will enable you to change the usual negative views on pain and illness. Positive attitude is the main tool of this healing process. Treating the whole of your body including the pain inside it with love is the medicine in itself according to Dominique.
However, having read the book I remained unclear how the healing actually happens. The explanation of the internal treatment process was not sufficient to me, that is why I do not think that the book will be able to persuade many sceptics to change their mind and to give “Happy Healing” a try. The method is certainly different from the traditional ways to treat pain. I would strongly advise applying it is as a supplement to the usual medical treatment or in cases of chronic pain after the diagnosis has been established and confirmed.
It is written in a very friendly and engaging manner without any overpowering medical terminology. I would like to be able to read more successful stories and examples of how the healing method described in the book helped people with various pain conditions.
I rate the book 3 out of 4 stars. The ideas of the author may not be supported by the conservative medical science, as it is indeed a non-traditional approach to healing, however the connection between mind and body, the emotional and the physical internal processes is becoming more and more recognised. If your mind is open to explore alternative ways to treat your body and to relieve pain, this is definitely the book for you.
