The Misogi Method written by Jody B. Miller is not a self-help book but does help give you the

incentive to push your limits and find more of yourself throughout the process. The author begins by

explaining what Misogi and The Misogi Method mean. Misogi is a Japanese Shintō ritual of purification

by washing the entire body in very cold water. The Misogi Method is explained by the author how to

step outside the outer most limits of your comfort zone to live your best life yet. As the author explains the

meaning and steps of what The Misogi Method is traditionally and how it’s changed in these modern

times, she tells her story how her journey began and how it continues, she also shares interviews conducted

with different people who have performed their own Misogi.

From the beginning she writes in conversational format, making it even more enjoyable to read. The book is

very informative and entertaining. The exercises you find at the end of the sections are very helpful and

insightful during the process. She conducts interviews with people, some well-known, and shares these in the

book. It is encouraging to see how they achieved their Misogi’s and how going through the process has given

strength to their lives. One message she does tell is that even if you do not for any reason, complete a

Misogi, it is still part of the journey and is not a fail.

I didn’t find anything about this book I disliked. I love “The Core Premise:” she writes on page 14. “Changes

in current societies are affecting childhood experiences. Time for outdoor play is diminishing, contributing to

more sedentary life styles, disconnected from the natural world.” This is a statement I can relate to. This

book gives you what you need to find your own Misogi, looking deeper into yourself for the person you can be

and finding the happiness you are looking for or more if you believe happiness has already been achieved.

This book is great for young adults and adults alike who are looking to improve their level of happiness, push

their limits and find the best life they can live yet. Jody B. Miller is a writer who concentrates on

happiness and how to achieve it. She hasn’t stopped at one Misogi and continues to find new ones, always

pushing her limits even further. During the book she talks about her childhood and the freedoms of that time,

self-reflection and learning. It’s her childhood and experiences throughout her life that brought her to what

Misogi is and completing her first one. After she competed her first Misogi she realized finding her Misogi

doesn’t have to stop at just one and continued to find her next Misogi after next.

I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars . This book was very well written, with only a few spelling

errors, easy to read and follow, and wonderfully informative. The exercise sheets included in the book are

optional but are highly recommended. It is a book I would read multiple times as I too, find my own Misogi.
