The Mindset: My Journey from Janitor to Silicon Valley Millionaire in Five Years by Ace Bowers. This memoir presents the author's extraordinary success achieved in a period of just 5 years.

In the initial chapters, the author paints a detailed picture of his family's problems with money and alcohol. His dysfunctional family deeply impacted his growing years and the shame he felt about it for the major part of his life. As a child, the author was conscious that he had far from a normal childhood. These troubles that he grew up with taught him exactly what he did not want to become as a person, a husband, and a father. He could have been a similar failure but when the time came to make a crucial choice for his own life, he chose better. This is what set him up for an entirely different path and subsequent incremental and later phenomenal success.

What is noteworthy here is that the author is just like one of us. In fact, his conditions had actually set him up for failure in life. And his formula for success, from almost going homeless to becoming a multi-millionaire in Silicon Valley as well as being a well-rounded family man, is far from a magical, complicated formula. Instead, it is just common sense decisions followed up by serious commitment and an awesome work ethic. This leaves you thinking that if he can make it, I too can achieve whatever I want.

I like the fact that the author shared his personal life, which involved his entire family, openly. I believe it takes courage to speak about uncomfortable things when you are in the public eye. Kudos to him for that!

This book is written in simple words and has an easy flow to it. It can be finished in a single sitting and it will leave behind a good taste. It has no grammatical errors and seems to be professionally edited. There is nothing in it to dislike the book.

This book is a great read for young adults. It will provide a direction to the choices one must make in life and also motivate you in case you in need of some change in life. I give it a rating of 4 out of 4. I believe anyone who is looking for a frank and unpretentious read about how to be successful in life could read this book. If you enjoy reading fiction of any sort, then this book is not for you.
