Entrepreneurship as a concept is more trendy than ever, and self-help books on leadership, business, and related subjects are more numerous than ever. However, few of these books display true excellence and uniqueness; they often repeat the same phrases and provide little insight on their chosen subjects, all while being poorly written or edited. Dominica Lumazar, however, has managed to produce an exception to this trend. Her book, Empowered: The Business Owner’s Guide to Leadership and Success, draws on her experiences as the CEO of Sweet D Marketing to provide tips and advice for aspiring leaders and business owners.

Lumazar divides the book into three parts, totaling 12 chapters, each of which focuses on a different aspect of business management, such as developing a team, conducting successful marketing, and being an empowering and empowered leader. Each chapter begins with a quote about leadership; “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way,” courtesy of John C. Maxwell, opens the first chapter. Each chapter also contains several helpful subheadings, which make Lumazar’s writing organized, crisp, and easy to follow. Under some of these subheadings, she provides questions for readers to ask themselves about their goals, and under others, she provides tips for accomplishing those goals.

Lumazar’s style is straightforward and energetic; her anecdotes range from the humorous to the horrifying and reveal a genuine desire to help others become better leaders. She does not shy away from the more difficult aspects of business—dealing with cheating employees, for example—but she also highlights the many rewards of learning how to be a more effective and understanding leader. The book is brief but packed with a strong variety of subjects, including a strictly business-oriented section on search engine optimization and a more personal one on how to achieve an appropriate work-life balance.

In a mere 127 pages, or 38,000 words, Lumazar manages to present solutions to every major concern that a business leader might face, thereby condensing the often verbose and confusing genre of self-help into one slim volume. Her book is far from perfect: she, too, often falls into the trap of clichés (albeit effective clichés), and she only provides concrete examples for around half of the tips she advocates. Nonetheless, Lumazar’s book is likely to appeal not only to those starting or taking over a business, but also to those who simply want to improve their communication and teamwork skills. The book is pleasantly free of typographical errors, and, along with its other virtues, this merits it 4 out of 4 stars.

I do like it when the self help book won't take longer to read than to implement it's ideas. :)
This sounds like a great book who are interested in improving their teamwork skills.
