I don’t usually read non-fiction books, but when I saw the title of this book, I couldn’t resist, and it didn’t disappoint. The Chauvinist’s Guide to Modern Romance, by Morris Rollins, is “a real-life comedy about men and women.” It’s a satirical dating guide written for men, and should not be taken seriously. It begins with an enlightening explanation of the difference between men and women. The reader then learns about how chauvinism works, including body language, scent, and lying, among other things. The reader also learns how to attract different types of women, such as nice girls, blondes, and Catholic girls.
What I liked most about this book other than the fact that it made me laugh out loud were the visuals. There were photographs, cartoons, and graphs. It was nice to have something to break up the instruction manual. Each section would have blurred together without something to illustrate the points.
What I liked least about the book was the section about “nice guys.” I know the book is supposed to be humorous, and I did find the majority of the book funny, but calling nice guys “wimps” and “half homo” went a little too far for me. This is probably because I like nice guys, so it’s just my personal opinion. But, I can overlook this section since I liked the other parts of the book.
I would rate The Chauvinist’s Guide to Modern Romance 4 out of 4 stars. It was exactly what I thought it would be based on the title and description of the book. It deserves a 4 and not just a 3 because it was interesting, clever and made me laugh.
This book is clearly intended for an adult audience. Younger readers should not read it. There’s a lot of sections about sex and adult subject matter.
People with a slightly crude sense of humor would enjoy this book. If the title of the book seems funny to you, you’ll most likely enjoy it. However, you must be able to take a step back and realize it’s meant to be a joke. If you take it seriously, you’ll be offended by it.
The book was well edited, and I didn’t notice any errors. It’s a very short book (64 pages) and has quite a few pictures throughout so it’s a quick read, which can be nice. If you don’t take things too seriously and are looking for a funny book, I definitely recommend The Chauvinist’s Guide to Modern Romance!

At first I thought the pictures were cheesy, but they grew on me as the book went on. They really did add to the humor!allbooked+ wrote: ↑09 Jul 2019, 08:15 I read this and had the same reaction as you - enjoyed the illustrations and felt they added to the humor. I laughed and cringed throughout. Definitely need a sense of humor to read this!
