I am not going to try to sugar coat it, it was very hard to get all the way through and finish reading Debt Cleanse by Jorge P. Newbery. Although it was a difficult read for me, I give it 2 out of 4 stars.

I had such a hard time reading this super detailed and organized book mostly because I have a lot of disagreements with the idea of “hey I borrowed all this money and am now drowning in debt, so let’s blame everyone else in hopes my debt will just poof disappear”. I did appreciate, though, that in the beginning the author made sure to write a snippet pretty much answering that exact complaint. It is important to make sure anyone reading this book or anyone in life, in general, take responsibility for their own actions, including those actions that result in debt. He is not suggesting that his readers just up and borrow a bunch of money they never intend to pay back and then use his resources to shame these companies. I think Jorge Newbery is targeting those readers that, yes, did borrow a lot of money from numerous creditors, but these readers have lost the ability to even consider paying those debts back due to harassment, fees and other barriers of payback. It can be quite easy to get buried in debt and not conceive of getting yourself out except to keep paying the fees and minimum payments, which we know never actual pays off debts.

I was intrigued by this book because of the title Debt Cleanse because I, like most of America, have a lot of debt and I hate it. I was hoping this book would help me well get rid of it, and I suppose it would if I wanted to never have an acceptable credit score again or if I wanted to hire an attorney and fight for minor human error in these companies employees. This book isn’t my cup of tea, but I was impressed by the author nonetheless.

Although I did not agree with the material, I really could appreciate how thorough Jorge P. Newbery was when he wrote it. His chapters were well organized and had an excellent flow. The ideas were well researched and the resources he offers could really help people, who are unable to function daily under their debt anvil. We all know there are companies that thrive while bringing people down. There are companies that take advantage of people that need them; The author’s chicken analogy was great.

I am not at the desperation point that I think the author’s targeted audience would be at, and I might not agree with the strategies that he has set forth in this book, but Jorge P. Newbery did an excellent job writing Debt Cleanse. I really hope that my 2 out of 4 rating doesn’t deter someone who really needs this, to give this book a try. You never know, might be a surprise in there for you.
