The Chauvinist’s Guide to Modern Romance stays true to title and is unpretentious in the approach to dating. A part of the introduction says "Get the upper hand on the weaker sex" just beneath the photo of a caveman dragging his woman by the hair. I immediately knew to be fully armed with my sense of humour and not get offended by anything I read. This author has stated his position in the book's title, but in case any readers miss that, here is fair warning.

The book gives an overview of the male and female gender, and then quickly goes into the business of categorizing them. After that, the author takes the time to explain the differences between both sexes, complete with charts to illustrate his points. Finally, he goes into the tips for getting various kinds of women: young or old; good or bad.

There were a lot of clichés about women which I found to be funny without, necessarily, agreeing with them. Here's an example: "success in romantic love is the single most important measure of a woman." That is not something I've heard in a while, and it made me look up the year of the book's publication: 2018. Imagine my surprise! I completely disagree with the age demographics which the author termed as older women and old women, but he did say that there is a state of denial about it so perhaps I am in denial about being an older woman.

Generally speaking, the author's tips could work. The tips about trapping a bad girl might even be 100% effective, and if we are to accept the research of Morris Rollins, the bad girl is the desire of all men. Those who choose to put this guide to practice probably need to bear in mind that a lot of women can see through the façade. I got the impression that the book was not well edited. Sentences were, sometimes, so incomprehensible that I had to read them multiple times.

I give the book points for the author's sense of humour; I also recommend it to male chauvinists and women who are not overly sensitive. It is written to be a comedy so if your sense of humour is not healthy, this might not be the right book for you. I have to commend the author's research into the topic of romance between men and women, but I wish the research were more extensive instead of stopping with the stereotypes and relying on generalisations. Regardless, I enjoyed reading about a chauvinist's perspective on romance and how to get the ladies. I rate this book 2 out of 4 stars because of the unsatisfactory editing and the lack of exhaustive research into the topic.

I like that the approach to this book appears to be satirical, but I'm not sure I could sit through all of the errors in addition to the cliches. Thanks for an honest review!

Probably why the author used a pseudonym. The debate would be unending if one were to take his views to heart.
