Just when you think that you have made the right decision by buying something or engaging in a diet to improve your health along comes this book. The book entitled Health Tips, Myths and Tricks: A Physician’s Advice by Morton E. Tavel, M.D. will end all your unanswered questions and will lead you on a path to a better life. With today’s technology, relying on Siri, or searching the voluminous archives of Google or watching countless videos might be one way to read on health. But, unfortunately, the information that you seek might be a mix up of truth, half truths and plain old deception. The book promises to open your eyes to the plain truth about your health. You might long for immortality but there is no such thing. There is the key to a longer life though and the good doctor teaches us how.
The book has just the right information for each chapter that begins with an overview of the topic and provides concrete details and examples together with solutions for a better healthier body. If you have been tirelessly trying out different kinds of diets and have had no success whatsoever, he will teach you the basics of a good diet, what to do, what not to do. The information that he provides is based on his own vast experience as a medical practitioner in internal medicine and cardiology and also based on published scientific analysis and data. Ever wonder whether coffee, wine or artificial sweeteners should be included in your diet? Read the book and get hooked as I have done so moving from chapter to chapter each one as interesting as its own.
The book has been an eye-opener for me and surprisingly as one who rarely drinks coffee, I understand its benefits more and could actually vouch for the results as suggested in his book. I now drink coffee every day. I have often wondered whether multivitamins are the magic that it’s advertised to be. Spoiler alert - it is not. The truth will surprise you as only a few of the vitamins listed in your multivitamins must have are really what you need. The rest comes from choosing the right food. I will let the book show you what these foods are and what vitamins are essential. We have even been given some advises by our parents or well meaning people handed to us from generation to generation but scientifically, Dr. Morton will show you which has validity and which has none.
Ever wonder why you suddenly have diabetes or are suffering from high blood pressure even though you are eating the right foods and going on a strict diet? The book reveals how some sodium or sugar or the wrong kinds of fats sneak their way into our body and wreak havoc. Whether you want to maintain the right diet, or are trying to recover from a wrong health choice, this book is for you.
If the bible is known as the nourishment for our soul and spirit, the book by Morton E. Tavel M.D. is the bible for healthy living. At first glance, the book with roughly 62 chapters all in all might seem too scientific and lengthy might make you decline to read it. However, you will realize that you don’t need to read through the entire book at once. It is meant to be read at leisure. In fact each chapter stands out on each own, the topic just as interesting as the next one.
In chapter 23 for instance, he shows how corporations are putting the proverbial wool over our eyes with our favorite snacks. We wonder how these snacks are too delicious to be true and as a result, we eat more than we should. What kind of deception are they playing? The book promises to reveal the tricks of the trade employed that affect our consumption and food choices. How they directly affect our state of health. We should thank Doctor Morton for providing us this information so that the next time we make our purchases, we can pause and think about whether we are really helping ourselves or the shadowy enterprises.
I have always believed and have been taught that sleeping early is necessary and having the right amount of sleep is essential to a better health. I know better now. So many times have we accepted time honored traditions which supposedly are for our health without questioning whether these have been correct all along. The answers of whether these myths (Chapters 33 to 52) are true will astound you. I strongly suggest reading about the factual truths about alternative medicines, herbals, alkaline water, detox, GMO's and so much more. Perhaps it is time for us to shake the notion of just accepting what we have been told to in the past and start a new trend of doing what is actually right instead.
This book is recommended for everyone. Even though it might appear as stiff and uninviting, the topics are well constructed and surprisingly an easy read even though some chapters can be lengthy. In a nutshell, the book is a guide to a healthier body and more informed you. By reading through the chapters you can undo the cobwebs of past unhealthy routines and walk on the right path instead. No longer will you be a silent victim of the false representation purporting to benefit your health but instead sadly leads to its decline. Be a better shopper and know what are the right choices for a healthier you. So many helpful nuggets of information stored in one book. It is a treasure indeed which is why I give this book a score of 4 out of 4 stars. Even with the need for a better cover, with the contents being tackled in this book and how relevant and helpful it is to anyone health-wise my rating remains unchanged. All because the good doctor believes that with the correct mindset and action, everyone is entitled to a longer and fulfilling healthy life.
As a final note, the book was published in 2015. Between that year and now a lot of findings may have been discovered that would require the information in this book to be updated for authenticity purposes. Until such time, that a more updated version is available with data that supports topics discussed by Dr. Morton, I will still use the knowledge gained in this book as a yardstick to secure my health for a better future.
