Health Tips, Myths, and Tricks fascinated me from the moment I began reading it. Its author, Dr. Morton E Tavel, is a physician who works as a clinical professor at Indiana University School of Medicine. It is clear his credentials are both reliable and verifiable, which affords credibility to the information he provides the reader with.
Dr. Tavel focuses extensively on three main subjects throughout his book, divided into sections which allow for an easier read: Health and wellness tips he approves of and those he believes the reader should avoid; popular medicine myths which might prove harmful to the general public, and finally tricks the reader should be wary of. Dr. Tavel warns his audience that unscrupulous swindlers might attempt to earn a few quick bucks exploiting people's fears.
Health Tips, Myths, and Tricks is, in turn, divided into sixty-two chapters. Most of them are short, usually no longer than a single page or two. These sections address every medical issue I could think of, from vaccines to GMOs to dieting and exercise: It's incredibly thorough!
The author offers his readers substitutes and alternatives to bad eating and exercising habits, proposing sound health advice. Most of his opinions are backed by numerous studies, which I appreciated greatly.
Dr. Morton E Tavel's writing style is humorous, casual, and entertaining; it's a surprising page-turner. I wouldn't have expected this from a health book, but I'm always happy to be pleasantly surprised.
An exciting piece of information which made me enjoy this book all the more was the fact that Dr. Tavel includes his own research as well as that of other highly trustworthy sources. Media reports, scientific publications, and the likes offer reliable information for the audience to make an informed decision about their life and their health.
I would highly recommend this book to people who want to live wholesomer lives. It has tips on how to lose weight; eat better and feel better in turn; avoid needless medication, and even manage to look younger while you're at it!. It also proves to be a great tool to once and for all differentiate myth from reality, as the former has often proved to be highly dangerous to the general public.
I think this book deserves 4 out of 4 stars: It's been clearly professionally edited. I noticed no typos or errors of importance. I believe wholeheartedly it's a must-read non-fiction novel for all those health aficionados out there.
