A Roadmap to Career Success: 25 Tips for College Bound Students by John G. Bendt is an excellent resource for high school students making plans for their college education. This book can help readers navigate and excel in the often competitive world of career building.

The author begins by stating that competition is a fact of life. This certainly applies to the career field. He explains that to rise above other candidates and co-workers you must differentiate yourself through developing various skill advantages employers will find valuable to their operation. Bendt then goes on to provide useful tools and tips to help you start your journey to finding a rewarding career.

This book is about discovering your hobbies, skills, and talents and how you could turn them into a career to suit your lifestyle. Bendt explains that the best time to start exploring a potential occupation is when you start high school. There are plenty of resources available to high school students such as aptitude tests, electives, and mentor programs. These are in place to help students discover possible options for a career that they would enjoy. He then shows how important it is to develop workplace skills that will make you desirable to companies. As you hone in on a possible career choice, networking, mentoring, and internships are essential to a beginning career seeker. All this advice and more is broken down into 25 tips that are easy to apply and follow.

I really enjoyed this book. I wish I had something like it when I was in high school. I feel that every high school should teach a class on this subject. This book is not very long and the chapters are easily understandable. The tips are overviewed in bold and then a further explanation is given in depth. There were diagrams, charts, and lists provided to help illustrate the author’s points. The tone was uplifting and inspiring. It was full of good advice that can be applied by both potential college students and people already in the career field.

I give A Roadmap to Career Success: 25 Tips for College Bound Students by John G. Bendt 4 out of 4 stars. This book could be a great asset to young students seeking career advice. I feel the information in this book will help students decide on a career, as well as provide direction in their college years. There wasn’t anything I didn’t like about this book. I thought all the tips were applicable. I did not notice any grammatical errors. I would recommend this book to high school students and anyone seeking a fresh start to their career.
