HEALTH TIPS, MYTHS AND TRICKS- A Physician's Advice BY MORTON E.TAVEL, M.D.

HEALTH TIPS, MYTHS AND TRICKS- A Physician's Advice is a book that covers a wide range of health related topics and some topics not directly related to health, like the accuracy of lie-detector machines. Divided generally into three parts, the book discusses many health issues some of which include Weight loss techniques, diets, Dietary supplements, myths about allergies, and alternative medicine.

The book also lets the reader know about certain tricks used by junk-food production companies and drug/supplements production companies, in selling products that are sometimes ineffective and may even be harmful to the consumer. The book discusses the effectiveness (or lack thereof), safety and dangers of some widespread health practices, and opens the reader's eye to certain myths that are believed to be truths- like the relatioship between shellfish allergies and iodine sensitivity, Or, that Pasteurization affects the nutritional content of milk.

"... "vanishing caloric density", which underlies all junk-food science. This is the process by which the food melts in your mouth so quickly that the brain is tricked into believing that it is consuming fewer calories than are actually present...". This part, among others, in the book, is quite enlightening especially as I was unaware of this before reading the book.

What I like most, about the book, is that the author, Morton E. Tavel, M.D., presents the book in easy, clear to read language, which makes it easily understandable to all. The presence of some technical language, and the fact that he goes into some detail,-one could say, at an intermediate level, in his explanations, makes the book useful to health practitioners as well as the average person with no medical training. This book is beneficial to anyone who wants to figure out how to live a healthy lifestyle in today's world, while saving money.

I also like that the book looks professionally edited with nice titles given to each chapter, - making it more interesting, - and very few grammatical errors , making it easy to read and understand.

Perhaps the one thing I dislike about the book is how it seems to put down alternative medicine, and discards it as ineffective. It seems to plant the seed of distrust in the reader's mind, against practitioners of alternate medicine, in a bid to caution the reader from depending solely on that type of medicine. I, however think it's unnecessary to dismiss that branch of medicine entirely as it exists for a reason, and if it works for some people, in some cases, then, why not try it?

I rate this book four out of four stars. It is well explained, yet not boring, or too in-depth. I definitely recommend it to anyone who breathes.
