Health Tips, Myths, and Tricks by Morton E Tavel, MD., is a book written by a retired physician who not only shares his knowledge on how to improve our health and helps us make the most beneficial lifestyle choices, but also debunks common myths that are often repeated by the media.
The book is conveniently separated into three main parts named after the title. The first part called 'Tips' covers the common problems many of us face in daily life - the author advises us what diet decisions should we up keep to become more healthy and happy versions of ourselves and what should be avoided for good. It's not only a diet book - you'll learn about dietary supplement use, using sunscreen on skin or the benefits of a daily exercise as well!
In my opinion, the second part called 'Myths' is the most beneficial to an average internet user. The author explains thoughoutly the common misconceptions, f.e. eating gluten-free products by the people who don't suffer from celiac disease or the so-called benefits of drinking energy drinks.
In the part three called 'Tricks' we are confronted with the hacks and common lies the scammers tell us to simply take money from us and which can be harmful and in the worst case, even lethal! Should we listen to media health gurus, how advertisers trick us to buy worthless health suplements... it's all covered in the last chapters of the book.
I can recommend this book to anyone who cares to improve their health and lifestyle and wants to become more aware consumer. The great advantage of it is that the tips described in a book will benefit people no matter the age - you can start to live a healthier lifestyle even when you're older! All the informations are written in a simple language, deprived of technical jargon, so anyone can understand the meaning. The only downside (which really isn't one) is that the author's reviews and recommendations of medicine can mostly benefit only the citizens of the US - he speaks about the meds that are commonly sold in States. This is a minor flaw though that does not impact the informative level of the whole book whatsoever.
I give this book 4 out of 4 stars. It's a highly informative book concerning lots of up-to-date subjects that can visibly increase the quality of our lives. The language used is simple and straight forward. This is the book one can benefit from for their whole lifetime.
