Who Told You That You Were Naked? A Refreshing Reexamination of the Garden of Eden by William E. Combs
Who Told You That You Were Naked? Is a religious book that according to the author was written to answer the question, “Why is the Gospel seen by so many as irrelevant today?” The focus of this book is a reexamining of the Garden of Eden in Genesis 1-3 but also examines different topics such as Sin and how it came into the world, the knowledge of good and evil, Faith, Freedom in Christ, Truth and Living in God’s Rest among others. The author compares different Bible scriptures and breaks it down to bite size pieces such that things we could not have seen without comparing the scriptures become very clear. The book also has questions that enable the reader to further interact with the book and therefore the book can be used as a study guide. The book is also very interesting as the author provides stories and personal experiences which make it very relatable and thus gives hope that his experience can also be your own.

When I first saw that the author of this book is a Presbyterian minister, I was a bit skeptical. I thought it might be an attempt to convert me to his brand of religion but this book was free from any manipulation or indoctrination. The author presented his facts in a clear and concise manner and leaves the option of believing totally up to you. The book is well researched with references to the Bible and other research material clearly stated with in the text and at the end in the references giving his book even more credibility.

The author in an attempt to make us understand the scripture better created some stories and tried to help us see what might have been happening for example when he speaks of “Lively”. While he did mention that it was a made up story I am a little concerned about how the story may be received. It could look like he was adjusting the scripture to fit his story. However the stories were really helpful to bring the scriptures to life.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because it was very beautifully written, the author took the trouble to make it as easily understandable and interesting as possible. I believe many lives will be set free after reading and studying this book. I haven’t read any other books by the same author but I look forward to other works by the same author. I will definitely be recommending this book to other people.
