Health Tips, Myths, And Tricks A Physicians advice Health information to liberate us from “snake oil” This book is a comprehensive guideline written by Morton E. Tavel, M.D. This book touches on nearly all common health issues a person might want to know about. It is not a book that discusses specific ailments or treatments whatsoever. It is rather a guideline to healthy living and using common sense when deciding to follow certain “fashionable trends” regarding what is considered healthy in the media at the moment. The book covers everything from dietary issues to a whole range of topics that can affect a person’s health. It also dedicates a couple of chapters to clear out common misconceptions about topics people can be sensitive to; such as genetically modified foods, energy drinks, bottled water and a few more.
This book should appeal to anyone who is conscious about their health, what they put into their bodies or even people who are worried about environmental impacts on their health. It is a very useful guide that can be used over and over by all members of the family. If anybody is concerned about certain health issues such as for example gluten in their diet, the water they are drinking, dietary supplements, or many other, it would be useful to consult this book and get a medical opinion.
The author based all of his advice on scientifically proven methods, and if something is not proven in a scientific way, it is regarded as not useful to pursue. This typically is the case for alternative medical practices. In some instances the reader might get the feeling that the author is biased in his opinion or advice.
Dr Tavel MD is now retired, but he was a physician specialist in internal medicine and cardiovascular diseases. He also held a teaching position at the Indiana University School of Medicine. He was president of the cardiac rehabilitation program at the St Vincent hospital in Indianapolis. In addition he had numerous speeches and lectures and his research includes over 120 publications.
I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. It contains very useful information that the average person should be aware of and take into consideration when making decisions regarding their general health. However if you are a health conscious person, or experienced some health issues, especially issues regarding dietary concerns, there is little new that this book will teach you.
