I rate If Your Life Stinks, Get Your Head Outta Your But's: A No-Nonsense Guide To Happiness And Success by Mark L. Wdowiak two out of four stars. While the concept is good and the ideas behind it are sound, there was a lot of repetition. The book was clearly formatted to be sold as a hard copy and then adapted into ebook form; each chapter ending has a space for you to initial agreeing that you read the concepts within and are committed to following them.

The whole book reads like a transcript of a seminar; it's conversational and easygoing. However, there was a lot of filler and it all boils down to one general concept: An excuse is a reason based on a lie. However, author Mark Wdowiak makes several good points that are worthy of consideration. “If you don't decide, commit, or take some action towards a goal, you're not going to get it anyway, so what what have you got to lose?”

However, I did feel that some of his logic was flawed. “I used to complain about my sore feet until I saw a person with no legs.” The fact that other people have it worse or better than you does not negate or invalidate your own feelings, and often can serve to make you feel inconsequential when people mention that. You're hungry? Well there are kids in Ethiopia who have it worse! I don't think Wdowiak intended it that way, though; he seemed to be encouraging people to think positive. In another section he states, “You are never going to have positive, lasting change when you're coming from a place where you feel something is wrong with you” and that is absolutely true, but also very general. I felt that most of the phrases he used were pithy and cliched, although he does get into some finer points such as responsibilities versus obligations.

I can get behind the idea that the repetition in his chapters is meant to drive the point home, but for me personally it just made me want to skip ahead. Wdowiak gave examples from his personal life, but they were too general for me to feel a connection with him. Perhaps others would feel differently.

Overall, the book just did not resonate with me; perhaps our styles did not mesh. I might recommend this book to someone if I felt it would resonate with them.
