What really makes a man? I am interested in books that explore themes of manhood, fatherhood and masculinities. I hope Butler's story widens my scope in at least two of these areas. The review is nicely put together, congrats Natalie.

Not something I'd usually read, but I reckon it's pretty interesting to know more about what military life is actually like. Great review!

It's great when a writer can connect with his audience through his writing style. This book seems one that boosts moral and responsisbility in understanding the writer's journey. Glad to know you enjoyed it. Thank you for a glowing review. I may have never thought of trying one like this, but your review may just change my mind. ;)

It sounds intriguing because of the military involvement, but that might be a trap if he's not politically correct. Still, I'd actually like to read it despite not being a man. By looking at the cover, it's probably nothing too serious.

A very well written review, thank you very much! Excellently giving away the main point but not ruining any surprise.
As for the book this is definitely a must-read. Won me over with the very first sentence. Raw, honest and extremely spot-on writing style. Amazing, and the author's description about his dad is so similar to mine it's scary (not the appearance though, but pretty much everything else - my dad was dashing, thin and had strong with wavy dark brown hair and he never would've laid a hand on me or my mom).
Awesome book, awesome review. :) These make me very happy. :techie-studyingbrown:

I am really intrigued about this story because it has to do with the military. I read the sample pages and got even more intrigued about the author's perspective about how to become a soldier. His proud tone and the few events I read about left me thinking he might believe a person has to be heartless and chauvinistic to become a badass soldier. I know first hand this is a cliché. Nevertheless, the story got my attention.

The cover title and synopsis combo is a little odd, considering it's supposed to be about the military, but it makes it sound like an interesting premise. Thanks for the great review!

Great review. It is a good question for every man to ask. I have a negative perception of the military. I could use a little insight. Who knows? It could have a change of mind great review

Butler's autobiography is intriguing. I love the rhetorical question that serves as the title of the book.
