“The Lost Identity Casualties” is a thrilling fiction book for adults, with a lot of twists that keep the reader intrigued. The author Kim Ekemar wrote a poignant story about a man who has been brutally beaten down by members of the Russian Mafia. The story begins with Matthias Callaghan being in a coma. When he wakes up, he suffers from amnesia and does not comprehend why he finds himself in a hospital bed in Switzerland. As he progressively recovers, he realises the extent of his injuries and discovers that he received a face transplant whilst in the coma! At first he is very depressed by this feeling of having lost his identity. Progressively he becomes more and more angry and frustrated. This leads him to plot a plan to take revenge on all those responsible for putting him in this challenging situation.

“The Lost Identity Casualties” is part of a heptalogy of books, and I have to admit that I am already looking forward to read the six following books. I was delighted to find out that they are already available! I highly enjoyed this very complex story, with a lot of characters coming in to play. The writing style of the author is sophisticated, and this book has been exceptionally well edited.

Even though the main character is far from being perfect, I could not help myself feeling sorry for all the injuries he had suffered. I had sympathy for his feeling of losing identity after his face transplant. I understood his frustration when we discover that all this suffering was actually a misunderstanding, the Mafia had indeed took him for someone else! Finally, I could only agree with Matthias seeking revenge and I admire his organisational skills that brought his plan to reality.

If there was is one negative point I had to raise about this book, I would say that some of the descriptions of torture and the injuries are horrific. I am not used to reading such detailed and graphic descriptions, and I would have preferred if the author did not go into such details. This book is not for the faint of heart.

I highly recommend this book to all mature readers enjoying thrilling stories. I literally could not put “The Lost Identity Casualties” down and I read it in a single day.

Thus I rate this amazing and thrilling book 3 out of 4 stars.
